- More on SQL Reporting Services [KEITH]
-Finding more ways to utilize this.
-We have a couple Access DB's that are really used as reporting front ends to a SQL DB. I found that many users really just run reports and queries in the Access DB to get info.
-I'm starting small and doing reports that take minutes to recreate. Somewhat of a pain since the SQL Queries use the linked table name format, I can't just copy and paste them.
-SQL syntax seems a little of a pain too. Different needs for brackets, etc.
- Cracked Windows 7 RTM Ultimate Activated with OEM SLP Master Product Key [RICH]
- Wow not even public yet.
- General discussion, will there ever be a activation process that works 100%
- NO
- Microsoft Issues Critical Patches Today [KEITH]
-Patch'em, Patch'em, Patch'em
-Appears to be critical on desktop OS's for all versions of IE and moderate on Server 2003/2008 for all versions of IE.
-
- Personal Antivirus Strikes Again [KEITH]
-Got a call from my sister that she had a virus. Described the Personal
AntiVirus trojan, so I referred her to the
ComboFix? that Rich spoke about.
-She tried to run it and got errors. I had her run it in Safe Mode and she got a notice that it is for XP/2000 only, not Vista.
-Website says it is Vista compatible, so I have some more research to do.
-Any experience with this Rich?
- Will IE fail because it is not standards compliant? [RICH]
- "Firefox is an excellent browser, and it's available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Without a doubt it is the preferred browser of professional web developers because of its strict standards compliance, helpful development tools, and robust
JavaScript? error reporting. From a user perspective, Firefox has a tabbing interface that allows one browser window to contain many websites. You can easily toggle between sites without having to open lots of browser windows. Additionally, the webpage find/search feature is brilliant. As you type in your search word, Firefox highlights words on the page that match, letter for letter. If there is no match, the search box turns red, and you hear a soft clicking sound as you type. You don't have to type in your full word, hit submit, and wait for a response to find out there are no matches. You can also have Firefox highlight every occurrence of a search term on the page."

- Exchange 2007 Resource Mailboxes [KEITH]
-Have a common meeting room that I've wanted to implement this for a while. Finally management approached me about it.
-When you set up the mailbox, it does not include any permission and the AD User account is disabled.
-To setup the options effectively, you need to enable the user, login to OWA and configure the resource options.
-The permissions (or lack thereof) baffled me at first, until I realized that some resources may be limited to certain groups of people and you wouldn't want others to schedule the resource. For example, suppose this conference room was for management only and there was also a common conference room available to anyone. I could create a group containing only management users and apply that group to the restricted resource. The other common conference could be given permission for all domain users or a maintained 'All Employees' group.
-Only kludge is that in Outlook, you cannot just put the name in and resolve it. You have to click on the To: button, choose to show 'All Rooms' then find and add it to the 'Resources' line.
- Network Computing is back! The magazine that is. [KEITH]
-Digital only edition. I liked this one and Network much better than Network World. NWW just seems too scattered covering iPhones, etc.
-They could cover that stuff if they spoke to the network utilization impact, etc. but they don't.
- Hacker compliment at work [KEITH]
-Had a software vendor compliment my hacking skills when I deconstructed how their app worked and they were surprised.
-Not a 133t haxxor or anything. She was just impressed that I got their app to work (with limitations) in a network environment and figured out how the data was handled.
-Some vendors would have had a fit and wouldn't answer any questions. I was impressed she gave me more info on how it works.

The @site macro references the sites and services defined in Active Directory. So basically it will return a value to you which can be evaluated. I did not use this in my script because not all of my subnets are defined as seperate sites and would return the same value. This would be hard for me to qualify the site correctly.
But where each site you have is clearly defined you could easly use this macro to reduce the overhead of the script.
