- Just want some simple auditing to minimize color printer usage.

  • SQL Performance Problem [KEITH]
-Hot on the heels of Steve's discussion on SQL Index problems, the DB I had trouble with in the past is causing problems again.
-Timeout on queries and very poor performance.
-I copied DB to another server and performance is much better. So, it appears to be localized to the server. Not sure what has changed, but not interested in finding out.
-Going to use this as motivation to get it off that server and retire the hardware.
-Thought re-index would be my problem since running script shows fragmentation at 77%.
-After moving the DB off, I intend to reindex and test the old one (probably reindex once on the new server as well).

-Mark Gibbs at Network World had a great column on getting info from a vendor.
-One thing he notes that has always been a pet peeve of mine is the lack of pricing. Not even an MSRP.
-As Gibbs notes, that means they are trying to extract every dollar they can from you.
-There have been a lot of products that I've abandoned pursuing because I couldn't get a grasp on pricing. If you have to ask, it must be too expensive.
