  • Working on my Halloween costume. Can't say what it is, but will show it after the big neighborhood Halloween party. Convinced wife to make costumes this year. Years ago, I made a lot of my own costumes. I did a Gumby costume one year (think Eddie Murphy on SNL). I hope to had something just as cool this year.

  • Windows 7 - Release [RICH]
- selling better than Vista and Window Xp

  • Darn sysprep [KEITH]
-Went to update the image on one of my desktops and found it fails claiming it is "unable to write to the registry"
-Found it was probably a problem with the Mass Storage section
-Thought at first it was because I had left the USB external hard drive plugged in that I use to read/write images and that it detected that when doing the sysprep process and it wasn't in the Mass Storage section. Was not the case.
-Edited that section and reseal process worked fine.

  • Laptop User Woes [KEITH]
-Laptop user complains that he can no longer print to his home printer when logged in remotely.
-I thought he was using his home broadband, but he indicated he was unable to use that anymore at home and used his 3G Air card and was connected to both.
-Not liking this, but still not getting why since his home net was outside of the encryption domain.
-When he dropped it off it didn't register, but he said all the Comcast stuff is working fine.
-Turns out, he loaded all the Comcast recommended software (Don't yell at me for giving him the rights to install software...I've yelled at myself enough, but there are some apps I can't get to run without admin privileges) including McAfee? firewall/antivirus/anti-malware/mess-your-PC-up.
-Removed it and am testing now.

-New server in. Started converting some non-production machines.
-NOTE: Steve made a point that MS gave converter tools for Hyper-V for free and didn't believe VMWare did so.
-VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone software is free and works with migrating live systems, virtual appliances, VMWare workstation VM's, etc.
  • VMware? - really more of a switch architecture [RICH]
- I didn't realize how VMware? worked in that it is much like a switch
- I guess it stands to reason
- Hardware power save feature causing to go into standby

  • Need help [KEITH]
-Not in Vista. Can't read .HLP files anymore.
-I may have discussed this before. There is a workaround in case I haven't
-Found a third-party tool called HelpExplorer? 3, but it only threw errors when I tried it.
-There is an MS update that restores the functionality, see kb 917607 link below.

Listener Feedback

From listener....Ian via email

Hi,

I was listing to show 114 and heard Rob's issue with Citrix. I have come across a similar issue with IE not launching as expected, I found that with Citrix's installs an IE shim that launches instead of the full version. What I did we remove the iexplore version from the c:\program files\citrix\system32.

Hope this helps.
