- Now it doesn't seem that amazing except this is how I minimized the impact of a server that failed.

-Looks to be cheaper than the 3G cards I have in the field and CLAIMS no bandwidth caps. Originally he thought speed throttling and I clarified, he indicated no bandwidth cap. We'll see...

  • IBM simple question turns into getting lost in the ether [RICH]
- I just wanted to confirm an x series server would fit appropriately into an 11 u rack designed for s series blades.
- tried to talke with web chat, got referred to one number that referred me to another number.
- sat on hold for 45 minutes and then tried to call back a few times.
- My guess they really didn't have time for me.

  • 3Com Switch Problems [KEITH]
-HP buying 3Com. Not sure what that means for me when I make my next purchasing decision. I've used both and contemplated HP when I bought this last switch.
-Replaced burned-out switch.
-Having more trouble running Gigabit over my wiring. Are newer switches/NIC's more sensitive?
-New workstation would not negotiate and claimed wiring problem (Intel utility). New switch would not negotiate Gb either, so I had to hard code to 100FD.
-Change to old switch worked for workstation, but not inter-switch link.

  • Brightmail VA Move [KEITH]
-Symantec EOL my SMS Gateway for SMTP. I don't use an appliance, I use the app on Windows.
-With acquisition of BrightMail?, everything is being phased out in lieu of those products.
-Two paths: physical appliance or Virtual Appliance. Works well with my new virtualization strategy.
-Downloaded the VA image and already have it up and running in test. Need to configure and push into production.

- So I backed up the server in Council Bluffs I using image-x
- Autoit Gimagex utility or just use image x command line to mount.

-With Ubuntu, I've not looked at Red Hat for a while. I need to download them and tinker.
-We're looking at a new production control system at work that will replace a Solaris box with a Red Hat box. So, it would benefit me to get more familiar with it now.
