  • Resolutions for 2010 - (or a list of things that I won't follow through on)[STEVE]
-Blog more (at least every other week for UsePowerShell?). I keep shooting for weekly, but that dies out pretty quickly. - Make it measureable - 26 posts on UsePowerShell?, 12 on Mind Of Root.
-Establish a PowerShell Script Club. The first meeting is set. Goal - Get a core group attending (min 5 people) and at least two people for leadership (other than me).
-Contribute to PolyMon V2
-more?

  • Helpful Twitter Tips[STEVE]
-People often ask what value there is in Twitter. I've created a list that I'll keep adding to that includes some of the useful information sources I've found on Twitter.
  • Using VMWare stand alone converter to close out a location[RICH]
- Remote backup of EU PC's before site closes
- Image x, don't like
- May not be licensed for Ghost in near future

  • Enso Launcher[STEVE]

  • Scripting in your organization, Should you be a lone wolf?[STEVE]
-Just came up today. A friend of mine was asking for book recommendations. He had some training budget left and wanted to pick up several books in particular areas. Of the books we talked about, I recommended a book on SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services and The Practice of System and Network Administration. He asked if there was anything else I could recommend. I advised him that the PowerShell V2 Best Practices book just came out and that might be a good resource. He works in a small department - just himself, his boss, and a 3/4 time person. The other two people in the office are not keen on learning PowerShell.
-I'm of the opinion that automation is good for automations sake. Doing things consistently and repeatedly is a benefit and not wasted effort.
-One common argument is that only one person can support the solution. That can hold some merit, but not in all cases. If the script is just a replacement for a series of GUI actions, how is it less maintainable. If the scripter is available, then they would be back to using the GUI, which is where they would be with no scripting in the first place.
-Also, scripts are not just useable by the person who wrote them.. PowerGUI?, WPK, and other tools allow you to put a front end on your scripts to make them useable by those who are not comfortable with the command line.
-I wanted to bring this up here, since I've been hammering on PowerShell for the past two years with you guys and I don't think I've convinced you to take the plunge. What is holding you back? Time, desire, perceived benefit? I'd really like to be able to address this topic better.

  • Enterprise IT Survivor Syndrome[KEITH]
-Survivors of layoffs, project survivals
-Managers need to work on retaining the survivors of layoffs. Some may feel abused or alienated.
-Avoid the blame game. It appears petty
-customer service aspect. rebuilding faith of customers internal and external
