  • Apple Tablet? [KEITH]
-In case you've been under a rock today, Apple unveiled their new iPad tablet.
-Nice design. What's missing? GPS, camera. Does it matter to me, no.
-Does it make me regret buying the iPod Touch...yes, a little, now that I see that pricing point.
-They're getting the connectivity right this time with pay-as-you-go plans with lower costs. 250MB may be a little low though.
-My wife had asked weeks ago when I was blathering about this thing whether I would buy a 3G version and I said only if they did a data-only (no voice) plan for like $10/month. So, they were listening, but they didn't hear me on the price. Admittedly it was my fault for not mentioning there should be no cap.
-Now with iWork and iBook on the iPad, Apple needs to address user storage space on these devices. The need to carve out a location for user accessible files for these apps. (i.e. a My Documents folder)
-Lastly, ePUB better not be the only ebook format the support. I have too many PDF's that I'd like to slap on this sucker to be limited like that....and I want them in my iBook library and accessible. Otherwise, what's the point.
  • HP [RICH]
- Used to be fan boy, boy do they suck
- online support used to be good.
-Link: http://
  • eBooks[KEITH]
-Que finally was unveiled. Wow, $799 for the top of the line edition. Nice specs, but I'd want a full tablet at that price.
-Converting & managing ebooks. Calibre is a Free Open Source project that manages many readers.
-Even manages iPod Touch as an eReader w/Stanza app.
  • Password Generator [KEITH]
-Just search for Password Generators and you'll find plenty. Away from my desk and I needed to create a good random password.
-I always brain fart in these situations.Rather than do something stupid, I used one of these to generate a password.
  • Sharepoint Designer 2007 [KEITH]
-As I'm working more with Sharepoint, I wanted to get Sharepoint Designer. So, I asked my CDW rep for a quote.
-I found out it is now free...and has been for a while. So, if you want a tool for backing up, restoring, and templating your Sharepoint; download now.
  • IE Password Editor Utility [KEITH]
-User had a password saved for a site that made her constantly change passwords. So, whenever she went there it was auto-filling with the wrong one.
-Didn't want to clear all passwords, so I found this utility from the fine folks at NirSoft? that pulls them all up and let's you individually manage your saved passwords.
-Of course, I lectured about even storing them in the first place as I showed her how I could view all of her passwords with the utility.
-
  • Client Horror Story [KEITH]
-Found an ad on Craigslist for a start-up needing help building out an office. It was wired and they needed network, desktops, and servers setup.
-I responded and gave them all the pertinent info and they called and setup and appt.
-I showed up (early) as usual and even did some background research on the company. I go in and wait. Finally, the woman who arranged the appt. for her boss calls me into the conference room. She asks for a resume, which is that wrong when you are interviewing a company? She asks me to talk about myself then launches into discussing franchise opportunities for their company. "Not why I'm here", I say. She asks me why I'm there and, after telling her, she tells me the boss is out for an emergency and she has no idea what to ask.
-Other than DSL is being installed tomorrow, she knew nothing.
-No re-scheduling...not that I would have come back.
