  • More PC work [KEITH]
-Co-workers kids PC. He tried to load Windows 7 somehow and now he is getting all kinds of problems and PC won't boot.
-Did hardware check and thought there was memory problem at first, but never saw it again.
-Went to wipe and reload from OEM media and it failed. I pulled out the DVD and it looks like it had been polished with a cheese grater.

- Security - Cheap but more versitile
- Is this going to be a technology issue
- Site have old camera pumping to a monitor

  • Telecommuting Rules
-I've discussed this before that it would come to a head
-It appears to be approaching that point. I've been having discussions with HR manager on it as we explore and learn. Wow, more complicated than I even imagined.
  • School Uses Laptop Webcam to spy on kids...at home [KEITH]
-This is wrong on so many levels and has so many ramifications. The local morning radio brought up the potential for child pornography (even accidentally if the camera snaps a pic and an underage person in their bedroom is changing).
-This is why I don't advocate technology to manage employees. Yes, you can use it to an extent, but it should not be a replacement for a manager managing his/her employees.
-I don't agree with the statement that this act violates someones rights in the case of a stolen laptop. If it is stolen and you activate the camera, you are controlling your property. You have the expectation that the property should be where YOU want it to be and withing YOUR control. The thief has no expectation of privacy when stealing a device that has this ability. To me it is no different than LO-JACK. Can the thief claim his privacy was violated when his/her movements where tracked via GPS?

Listener Feedback

From listener....Jared

I’m glad I’m not the only one that has noticed the decline in HP’s quality. The only printers we purchased were HP Laserjets up until about a year and a half ago. We have several older Laserjet models still in production out on the shop floor and even have a 10 year old 8100 still in use in our shipping office. The last few HPs? we ordered were noticeably built with cheaper components and even had 2 units DOA, which I expect to happen every so often, but 2 within a couple of months?

We have actually had good luck with Samsung printers and have purchased a couple recently. I have also had good experience with a Brother color laser all-in-one unit that I have at home.

Props to Steve....

Mention on the Digital Discovery blog on Steve's mention of the Microsoft System State Analyzer
