[Keith] This is Episode 31 recorded on December 26th, 2007. While the other podcasters are slacking off over the holidays, we're hard at work in the studio.
First off; how was everyone's holiday? Rich - how did the festivities go at your house?
Chit-Chat - What's going on with you?

-"Apple accused Ciarelli, who was also an editor at the Harvard Crimson, of "inducing" company employees to break their confidentiality agreements with the company by disclosing trade secrets."

- Microsoft Opens Workgroup protocols [KEITH]
- The agreement will "allow Samba to create, use and distribute implementations of all the protocols" to allow so- called workgroup servers to connect with Windows, Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft said in a statement Thursday.

- Is your kid a l33t haxor? [KEITH]

-"A few titles to be on the lookout for are: "Snow Crash" and "Cryptonomicon" by Neal Stephenson; "Neuromancer" by William Gibson; "Programming with Perl" by Timothy O'Reilly; "Geeks" by Jon Katz; "The Hacker Crackdown" by Bruce Sterling; "Microserfs" by Douglas Coupland; "Hackers" by Steven Levy; and "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" by Eric S. -There are a number of debates on the web as to whether
PowerShell is a scripting language or a shell.
-It is both. Similar to Bash, the Korn shell, and other Unix style shells, even Windows cmd.exe. While PS has some features that make it great for scripting, it is a replacement for cmd.exe. Most (if not all) of your command line tools (including all the fun stuff from Sysinternals) works from the
PowerShell prompt.
-And the
PowerShell shell history allows you to pull your recent commands and create a script easily.
-get-history | % {add-content -Path .\yourscriptname.ps1 $_.commandline}; notepad yourscriptname.ps1
- AT&T still has default setup for WIFI set to use WEP [RICH]
-I was working with my wife's Aunt as she got high speed internet setup.
-Sheasked me to have a look at the setup of her WIFI as she lives near a WIFI hotspot.
-AT&T's setup directions had her setting up her AP using WEP even though the AP supported WPA and
WPA2?

-Final release not expected until sometime in first half of 2008...meaning could be as late as June.
-Approx. 336MB but expected to be around 70MB in final release
-Loaded on my system to test. Results?
-On first reboot, it was slow and I had a DOS window pop up and it scrolled through a bunch of 'Access Denied' messages. Didn't look like my login script, so not sure what it was. No other oddities. I rebooted again and seems pretty zippy.
-I've been a member of LOPSA for a little over a year now (about 16 months). I first joined because I thought $50 per year towards this fledgling organization was a small price, and I liked the idea behind it.
-After joining, I found out that membership has some nice benefits, including discounts on equipment and books.
-I recently re-read the Why Join? page and it really resonated with me, especially after our discussion back on Episode 13 (Ethics).
-LOPSA also has some local chapters starting, including one in my area. I've always had a reason not to go, but I will make it there (it's about an hour and a half drive to the location). Even if there is not a group in your area, there is an online community, including blogs and an IRC channel.

Would you ever consider having an "open podcast" on skype were you make a
skypecast and allow listeners to join in and listen or talk? Which i guess would make a live podcast.
MR.B4D?
[KEITH] I have considered this. It takes a bit of planning, which Rich and Steve can attest to me being horrible with. Otherwise, we use Skype, so I don't see why not. I think it would be fun. What do you guys think?
